About the Alfaro Family

The Alfaro family are residents of Los Angeles, CA.

Emily, 17 years old, is a part of the LAUSD - City of Angles Independent Study program. Her GPA since being part of City of Angles Independent Study is 3.83 (almost perfect). Emily has applied to be a Guide Dog Trainer with Guide Dogs of America and is currently eagerly waiting to commencement date. Her two favorite things are Superman and Tinkerbelle (please don't get her started on Superman vs. Batman).

Melissa, 14 years old and is a very strong member of the family and is a true survivor. She was been hospitalized four times since she was six months old and has survived illnesses which doctor's gave her  only a short time to live. At age six months she started with the inability to breath, they diagnosed her with Chronic Asthma. At age two, she was hospitalized and given only a few weeks to live when contracting Sepsis of the blood which was concentrated around her brain and facial organs. At around four she came down with a severe case of Scarlet Fever which the entire family was quarantined for seven days. At around six she became infected with a severe case of Chicken Pox which caused her to be hospitalized and doctors and medical students studied her case because of it severity. We can go on and on about her ailments. But now they don't matter because she is very healthy, nutrition conscience, and is currently very healthy. Lyndsey, 6 year old drama queen who can be anyone's motivating factor. She is loved by all and loves animals; dogs, cats, birds, turtles, ducks, etc. Of course her favorite is her "Buddy", her cockatiel who will attack anyone at her command; Marlene and everyone can attest to this. But Buddy is still loved by all. She loves being awakened by Buddy's whistling. She loves everything Melissa loves, is a strong campaigner for Emily's causes, is empathetic to Daddy's ailments, is totally attached to her Mommy, and will make you understand why she has to have it her way.

Hector is a loving father.  He is completely dedicated to his family’s spiritual, mental, physical, and healthy well being. He is currently devoted to finding a cure for his ailment and has a team of supporters in his family and doctors, medical staff, therapist, and counselors. He has served for over 5 years as an active member of the LAFD-CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and has served as a Battalion Coordinator for the largest battalion in the city of Los Angeles and is a Certified DOT EMS First Responder.
